Check out this interesting chart from Google Trends. It shows the increase in relative searches for the term inbound marketing during the last ten years—from zero searches before 2007 to rapid and continuous growth from 2008 to present. (Note that this is showing relative interest over time—so it’s not saying that there were only 100 searches total.)
The interest in inbound was fueled initially by high-profile articles like Forbes‘ “Add ‘Inbound Marketing’ to Your Marketing Options List” in 2011, a popular “Inbound Marketing versus Outbound Marketing” infographic from the San Francisco Chronicle in 2013 and coverage by the Wall Street Journal and other media giants. But interest in inbound marketing continues to grow—not because it’s the latest trend or popular buzz word, but because it works.
Trends and buzzwords come and go, but truly successful marketing terms and tactics stand the test of time simply because they get results. According to Google Trends, the term inbound marketing will continue to be of interest to searchers through September 2016. If you’re not incorporating inbound marketing into your marketing strategy, you’d better get started now!
