The world of SEO moves pretty fast, and in the words of Ferris Bueller, if you don’t stop and look around once in a while, you could miss it. That’s why we put together a weekly roundup for you.
Up this week? The top SEO news we think is the most share-worthy. Read on for everything (important) that happened this week in the mysterious, wonderful world of SEO.
Back to basics: Do outbound links matter for SEO? (Search Engine Land)
All links are not created equal. Are links still important? Should you link out to content? Is there a right (and wrong) way to do it? Search Engine Land recaps a short Ask Google Webmasters YouTube video on the importance of properly using outbound links. Nothing earth-shatteringly new here, but a good reminder of the hows, whys and whens to use links without doing harm to your site (hint: there are wrong ways to use them).
Voice search: Your new SEO secret weapon? (Entrepreneur)
Think this new(ish) form of AI isn’t applicable to your brand? Think again. Google notes that a whopping 55 percent of teens and 41 percent of adults use voice search daily. If that’s not enough to peak your interest, Google also claims that by the year 2020, 30 percent of all online searches will be done…gasp…without a screen.
Will swapping fresh content help your SEO? (Search Engine Journal)
This is a topic we regularly discuss with clients. As with so many things SEO-related, there is a lot (A. LOT.) of misinformation out there on the subject. And, in true to form SEO-fashion, once again, one size does not fit all. At the end of the day, the same, basic, steadfast rule of thumb applies when it comes to what works and is best for rankings in the almighty eye’s of Google. Your content should be authentic, original and helpful. Learn more about when and how to update content as a best practice.
Video: Rand Fishkin on the early days of SEO and starting and leaving Moz (Search Engine Land)
We here at Flair love us some Rand Fishkin. Combined with the fact that the interview is done by none other than Barry Schwartz (another of our SEO-heroes), this interview with the legendary OG of SEO is right up our alley. Check out was Fishkin has to say about how SEO started, what’s changed the most and why he left the famed MOZ.
Five SEO tips for doubling site traffic (Forbes)
Forbes gives us WAY MORE than what the title here suggests. Within these five tips, you also get a ton of information on each one. For example, tip number one is “Conduct an SEO Audit” – awesome. How the heck do you do that? In true Forbes style, they don’t leave you hangin. They go on to give you ten action items you can check on (and that’s just step one!).
Keeping up with SEO takes diligence, dedication and determination. Let’s just say, it’s not for the faint of heart. Feeling overwhelmed? Don’t know where to start? Wishing you had someone to charge your efforts? We are here for you!
